Surprise Birthday Shaker Card – Mama Elephant

Hi everyone! Shaker cards are one of my favorite cards to make. They are so festive, and have this fun surprise element! In this card I also used a few different techniques to create glossy elements. Keep reading to learn more 😉

Before I’m diving into the cardmaking process, I want to mention we have a challenge running over at Cloud9 Crafts. The theme of this month is “Shaker”. Head over to Instagram to see how you can participate and be eligible to win a prize!

First I stamped the image from Surprise Boxes on Perfect Colouring paper and colored it with Copic markers:

  • Orange: YR02, YR01, YR000
  • Mint: G02, G00, G000
  • Bear: E30, E31, E33, R20, R22

After coloring, I die cut the image with the coordinating die and added details with a white gel pen. On the orange Hooray Streamers, I also added dots with YR01 and the white gel pen to make them extra festive.

On a white cardbase I splattered Distress Oxide Cracked Pistachio and Dried Marigold, which both go very nice with the Copic colors I used for the gift. On that same panel I stamped a sentiment from the Mini Everyday Messages.

For the shaker window I die cut the Sweet Shoppe Frame out of Hint of Mint cardstock and adhered acetate behind the center rectangle opening. Around that window I put doubled up foam tape so there would be enough space for the sequins to shake around. Also for the sequins I went with colors which matched nicely with the rest of the card. I chose a few flowers from the Garden Party Sprinkletz, and pastel Tiny Diamonds.

The Enjoy sentiment I die cut out of cardstock which I ink blended with Distress Oxide Dried Marigold. Then for this sentiment and the Hooray Streamers I used different techniques to make them glossy. For the sentiment I did a couple of layers of clear embossing powder, heat setting in between each layer. On the Hooray Streamers I added Glossy Accents. They both have very similar effects I must say. The advantage of heat embossing is the no waiting time. With Glossy Accents you do need to wait before it has dried, but it is less messy. Do you have a preference?

I hope you like this card and tag, and it gave you inspiration. Thank you for stopping by and see you next time!
