Geometric Mixed Media Mini Slimline Card – Pinkfresh Studio

Hi everyone! From another project with the Simply Hexagons die, I had some elements left over. I used these in a slimline card for which I used some mixed media techniques. This card was a bit out of my comfort zone, but I’m really happy with how it turned out!

The card design was inspired by the current challenge over at Pinkfresh Studio. I like participating in challenges as it gives me a direction, and it may take me to designs I otherwise wouldn’t have made.

First I started working on the background, for which I did some simple watercoloring with Distress Oxides: Hickory Smoke, Speckled Egg, and Broken China. While the background was still wet, I splattered Picked Raspberry and Wilted Violet on top. Because it was still wet, those droplets spread out and faded, adding nice subtle shades of pink and purple to the background.

Once the background had dried, I applied modeling paste with the Slim Leafy Squares stencil. As you can see, I didn’t apply it perfectly giving it a slightly rustic look. Once the modeling paste had dried, I added gold splatters with Gansai Tambi Starry Colors.

On top of the background, I adhered the leftover hexagons with liquid glue. The sentiment I heat embossed with gold embossing powder on a strip of vellum. This vellum I wrapped around the background, keeping it in place at the back with double sided adhesive.

The Brighter Days flowers I foiled on top of vellum. The ink blending for the flowers I did on white cardstock with Picked Raspberry and Wilted Violet. The vellum part I only adhered in the center on top of the ink blended cardstock, giving it room to curl up. In the center of the flowers I adhered Ballet Slippers and Lavender jewels.

The card base itself measures 6 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches, and the Moonstone cardstock panel on top is slightly smaller. The mixed media background I adhered on top of it with foam tape to add dimension.

I hope you like this card, and it gave you inspiration. Thank you for stopping by and see you next time!

With this card I’m participating in the April 2022 challenge of Pinkfresh Studio.
