One Layer Easter Card with Masking Technique – Clearly Besotted

Hi everyone! Happy Easter, or vrolijk Pasen in Dutch! I wanted to create a bunch of small CAS Easter cards, and I felt the adorable little penguins from the All Four Seasons stamp set from Clearly Besotted was perfect for this.

First I stamped the images from the All Four Seasons stamp set on DCP paper with Memento Tuxedo Black ink. I wanted to try out this paper as I know some people use it for coloring with Copic markers. But I must say, I really didn’t like it for coloring as well as ink blending.

So next time, for one layers cards I will stick to Neenah. When it is purely coloring, I prefer Perfect Colouring paper, but that cardstock is not meant for ink blending. So that is why for one layer cards, I recommend Neenah Classic Crest Solar White.

For coloring, these are the markers I used:

  • Yellows: Y11, Y13, Y18
  • Pinks: RV000, R81, R83
  • Penguins: C1, C3, C5

After coloring, I masked off the images with masking paper from Simon Says Stamp. From the same masking paper, I created a mask for grass as I don’t have a grass stencil. Once I had also masked off the sky with the grass masking stencil, I ink blended Distress Oxide Bundled Sage at the bottom. Then I grabbed the other side of the masking paper, and masked off my just ink blended grass to create the sky. For that I created a gradient with Distress Oxide Kitsch Flamingo and Squeezed Lemonade.

To add more interest to the background, I added ink splatters with Gansai Tambi watercolors and Distress Oxide Kitsch Flamingo. On top of the grass, I stamped the sentiment with the letters from Little Signage Agenda from Mama Elephant. Now my main piece was done and I could finish off my card. I matted the card first with white cardstock and then popped it up with foam tape on top of dotted pattern paper from the MFT Party Patterns paper pad which unfortunately is discontinued.

This card was easy to make and I also made a bunch of them, assembly style, to give to a couple of friends. I hope you also like this card and it gave you inspiration. Thank you for stopping, and see you next time!
